Shelby Township Summer Schedules

Home School Classes (Ages 4-12)

Our home school curriculum is designed to immerse students in nature while teaching various topics in ecology and history. This 90 minute program is offered to children ages 4-12 years of age. Upon arrival, students will be split into age-appropriate groups so that program content is effective and engaging. An adult is required to attend and supervise their child(ren). A large portion of every class will be conducted outdoors, so please dress accordingly. $3 per resident child / $5 per non-resident child.

 Sept. 13  NCHOME.01   Autumnal Equinox What is the autumnal equinox? Students will learn about the ways plants and animals transition from summer to winter. 
 Oct. 11  NCHOME.02  Creatures of the   Night Explore nocturnal animals and the various adaptations they have for surviving in the dark!
 Nov. 8  NCHOME.03  Nature Navigators Learn how to read and make a map! Older students will be introduced to the skill of orienteering.
 Dec. 13  NCHOME.04  Food Webs Students will explore how native plants and animals are connected in our Michigan ecosystem.
 Jan. 10  NCHOME.05  Animal Coverings Fur, feathers, and scales… learn all about the different coverings that animals have that help them survive!
 Feb. 14  NCHOME.06  Finding Animals in   Winter Students will learn about animal adaptations that help them survive in the winter. Then we will hit the trail in search of wildlife. Weather permitting, we will wear snowshoes for our hike! (At least 3” of snow required)
