Hope Chapel Reservation Policy

Celebrate your wedding at Shelby Township’s Hope Chapel. Built in 1890 and relocated to the Shelby Township Municipal Campus in 2001, this quaint venue has all the charm of a small-town fairy tale near beautiful Heritage Garden.

$335 for residents, $435 for nonresidents for a 2.5-hour time block and a one-hour rehearsal.

Reservation Policy 

Individuals may reserve Hope Chapel on a first-come, first-served basis with no restrictions on the date. Therefore, you may reserve any date for any month or year based on availability. Full payment is due at the time of the reservation.

Township staff is not authorized to hold reservations without payment. The contractor that reserves the chapel is responsible for all damages. The township requires a driver’s license number at the time of booking. You must return the signed liability waiver before the reservation date.  Contractors may be subject to any price increases that may affect the date of reservation and the actual date of the event. 

Inquiries and reservations may be made at the Shelby Township Activities Center at 14975 21 Mile Road or by phone at 586-731-0300.

Reservation fees may be made by cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. If contract/receipt cannot be emailed, a $5 mailing fee will be assessed.

Reservation Times
These times reflect the earliest entry and latest exit times for the wedding party, florist or other persons involved in the wedding. Early access on the day before or the day of the scheduled wedding for decorating or other purposes is strictly prohibited. Access to the chapel is limited to the following times:

  • Fridays: 4-6:30 PM
  • Saturdays & Sundays: 12-2:30 PM, 3-5:30 PM, 6-8:30 PM

Rehearsals
An optional 1-hour rehearsal is available for the wedding party to finalize plans and for the Chapel Attendant to go over procedures and answer questions. Rehearsal times take place 4-9 p.m. on Thursdays only. All rehearsals must be booked with Shelby Township Parks, Recreation & Maintenance Department before the rehearsal date.

Refunds 
Hope Chapel has a no refund policy. Transfer of the contract to another contractor name is also prohibited.

Date Changes
Requests for date and time changes must be submitted to the township, in writing, by the contractor to ensure accountability and are subject to a rescheduling fee.

Heritage Garden Use
Hope Chapel rental does not include the use of Heritage Garden. Contractors must book the garden separately for private pictures or other activities. Garden reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be guaranteed for chapel ceremonies.

Professional Services & Ministers/Officiants
The bridal party is responsible for scheduling their officiant, photographer, and other professional services.  As a courtesy, the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation & Maintenance Department has a list of persons to perform ceremonies. Shelby Township is not responsible for, nor does it endorse, any of these persons.

Our Hope Chapel attendant will open the building, adjust the temperature, monitor the building and attend to any building-related issues. 

Decorations
Pew decorations with non-damaging clips, ribbons or other similar items are allowed. Flowers or other decorations must be free-standing. 

Prohibited items include damaging materials such as tape, nails and staples. Other prohibited items include birdseed, paper confetti or small animals. 

Bubbles or flower petals are allowed in outdoor areas only. Please do not use loose, real flower petals inside the chapel. You must remove all decorations and rubbish immediately after use. 

Aisle runners are not permitted in the chapel for safety and liability reasons. In addition, no smoking, food, or beverages are permitted inside the chapel.

Building Detail
The chapel has 15 pews, a floor-mounted podium and ample space for a backdrop or arbors. Fire safety regulations prohibt additional chairs in the chapel.

The sound system is CD and MP3 compatible with an iPod dock. It also features a cordless microphone and remote inside the podium. A bluetooth speaker is available for phone or tablet use.

The handicap entrance is on the east side of the porch. 

We have a single small sturdy table to allow for a unity candle or sand ceremony.

The wedding preparation room measures 11’ 6” x 11’ 6” and features a mirror. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in the back room.
