Freedom of Information Act Requests

Michigan's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), MCL 15.231 et seq, provides that certain persons can receive copies or make inspections of most public records of public bodies upon written request. The person must sufficiently describe the records he or she seeks. The public body may charge a fee to cover the cost of complying with a person's FOIA request.

The Human Resources Department serves as the FOIA administrator for Shelby Township and processes requests made under FOIA. Labor fees cover the hourly wage and a portion of the benefit cost of the lowest paid employee capable of performing the request. The rate below is the lowest paid employee wage. You will be notified prior to the processing of this request if this wage rate differs. Contracted labor costs are only permitted if Shelby Township does not have an employee capable of performing this work and cannot exceed $48.90 per hour. You will be notified prior to processing this request if contracted labor estimated cost is applicable.
