Death’s Door: the Truth Behind Michigan’s Largest Mass Murder.

Author Steve Lehto will discuss the 1913 Christmas Eve tragedy in Calumet, Michigan. More than six dozen people were crushed to death as they scrambled to flee the second floor of the Italian Hall after someone had cried “Fire” at the top of the stairs. There was no fire, but the tragedy permanently scarred the region’s psyche. Was the cause of “Fire” a tragic error or a deliberate action designed to cause chaos?
