ALL-INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND: Located northeast of Bittersweet Pavilion, this all-inclusive playground is designed with all kids in mind, including those with special needs. The rubberized surface allows for better accessibility to wheelchairs and walkers while providing a safe area for all ages to play. Construction of this playground was funded by area service organizations and businesses. PRM maintains the structure.
RIVER BENDS PARK BRIDGE: Visitors to River Bends Park have access to the entire park via a bridge that crosses the Clinton River connecting the 22 Mile Picnic Park to Woodall Community Park, the trap and archery range and the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center in the Ryan Road section. The bridge is open to foot and bicycle traffic only. No vehicles other than those of the rangers are allowed on the pathways or bridge.
RIVER BENDS PARK DISC GOLF COURSE: Shelby Township owns and maintains a disc golf course located within River Bends Park. Access the course from the park’s 22 Mile Road entrance at 5700 22 Mile Road. It is comprised of 27 holes, is free of charge and is open to all users during regular park hours. You must provide your discs for play. Any groups or persons operating a league must obtain a special use permit from the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department. Fees may apply.
RIVER BENDS PARK FISHING SITE: East side of Ryan Road, south of 22 Mile Road and along the Clinton River.
RULES: An adult must accompany children as banks along the river can be unstable. All persons fishing at River Bends Park must have the proper license. Patrons should refer to the DNR Rules and Regulations Fishing Booklet for license requirements.
TRAILS
22 MILE PICNIC PARK: The trail is part gravel, part paved and approximately 2.5 miles in length.
WOODALL COMMUNITY PARK: The paved trail is approximately 1.6 miles long.
Shelby Township’s trail inventory is vast and ever expanding. Trails are open to foot and bicycle traffic only. No vehicles other than those of the rangers are allowed on them.
River Bends Park also offers several MMBA two track and single track trails for those interested in mountain biking. For more information please call the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department.
Several miles of trails are located within Shelby Township. Some connect to the Macomb Orchard Trail, Clinton River Trail and the Paint Creek Trail. Stop into the Shelby Township Activities Center for a directory of trails or visit michigantrails.org or alltrails.com.
