The Charter Township of Shelby has nearly 1,200 acres of first-class public parks and access to the Clinton River, but the township's greatest Parks and Recreation amenity may be its 18.11 miles of hiking and biking trails.
Among these trails is the western-most portion of the Macomb Orchard Trail which spans from the township's border with Rochester and ends in downtown Richmond. The township is also home to a key connection of the Macomb County 70-mile trail loop and the Iron Belle bike trail, which will ultimately connect the City of Detroit to the western tip of the Upper Peninsula.
Shelby Township's trails offer residents and visitors a mix of scenic "up-north" hikes and Michigan Department of Transportation standard asphalt bike paths to meet all recreation needs.
