In continuing the legacy of its founder and namesake Jo Burgess, the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center provides nature-related experiences and activities to help visitors of all ages develop and rekindle an awareness and appreciation for the natural world around them.

The nature center and the trap/archery range will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving.

Bat Hike

Enjoy a summer evening outdoors learning about this unique creature of the night. After an introduction to bat biology and an echolocation game, we hit the trails and search for bats flying in the night sky. Then, using an electronic echolocation-detecting device, we can see a visual display of each bat call on an interactive, scientific-level spectrogram. Find out which bat species live in River Bends Park in this fun evening event. Pre-registration required.

Ages 5+ $3 per resident, $5 per nonresident. Register at register.shelbytwp.org #BATHIKE.03
