In continuing the legacy of its founder and namesake Jo Burgess, the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center provides nature-related experiences and activities to help visitors of all ages develop and rekindle an awareness and appreciation for the natural world around them.

The nature center and the trap/archery range will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving.

Christmas on the Frontier

Celebrate the holiday in frontier fashion with historically accurate games and activities such as candle-dipping and crafting rustic ornaments. Learn how early European settlers celebrated Christmas by meeting reenactors, visiting our authentic Settler’s Cabin, and observing family traditions from that era.

Father Christmas will visit from 2-4 p.m. Children will have the opportunity to tell Santa their Christmas wishes and pose for photos with a rustic cabin backdrop.

The “Too Happy Voyageurs” will play live music and teach traditional dances at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

$5 per resident; $7 per non-resident. Infants 2 and under are free.
