The mission of the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance (PRM) Department is to provide organized sports, leisure, cultural and educational programs, and outdoor recreational opportunities in a safe, healthy environment, providing members of the community with progressive recreational, cultural, leisure and educational programs.
Shelby Township's Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department strives to offer a wide variety of quality programming, activities and events for all ages and interests. The PRM Staff works year around to provide an ever-changing array of leisure opportunities that will enrich the lives of the members of our community.
Because they are so popular, some of the recreation offerings at the Shelby Township Activities Center have capacity limits. To ensure access to the activities and programs you want, we ask you to book your time via the link(s) below. Online registration for Shelby Township park and recreation programming is available through the township’s new platform at register.shelbytwp.org.
If you have registered for programs or events with the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department, the Shelby Township Senior Center or the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center within the past three years, your “household account” automatically transitioned to the new system. Established users must set a new password for the system by clicking the "Sign In" button and following “reset password” prompts.
If you have any questions, contact us at 586-731-0300 or shelbyprm@shelbytwp.org. The Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department offices are open 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Offices are closed daily noon-1 p.m. for lunch.
Staff with the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department have programming for all-ages recreation from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Shelby Township Activities Center.
In addition to program schedules posted on shelbytwp.org/parks, parents can sign up for text alerts with the Teen Recreation Advisory Committee for grades seven-12 and the Kid’s Club for grades one-six.
By texting @stprmTRAC or @stkidsclub to 81010, participants can join a notification system for information about volunteer opportunities, magic shows, sports competitions, movie nights, art classes and craft workshops.
- Refunds for most classes will be honored if the request is made before a class meets for the second time.
- See league information for refund deadline dates, fees and policies for our athletic leagues.
- Refunds for 1-day events or classes, camps or for programs that meet for consecutive days must be requested at least 7 business days prior to the scheduled date.
- $7 per enrollment will be deducted from refunds for processing unless description lists a different fee.
- A check will be mailed 3-4 weeks from date or request for cash and check transactions.
- Your card will be credited for VISA or Mastercard refunds.
- Refunds will not be issued for any fee of $7 or less.
- No partial refunds can be issued.

Sports combine the elements of physical fitness, competition and the ability to win at something when all of the regulations are followed. People who play sports can expect to be physically challenged by the demands that the sports put on them.
This is why Shelby Township Parks and Recreation offers option for various sporting league for adults, teens and children. A key part of this experience are our volunteer coaches, officials and staff. To be a part of this team submit a volunteer application to the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department. Online registration is available for all of our leagues.
Adult Leagues
Shelby Township Parks and Recreation adult sports leagues offer more than a night with friends and exercise in our first-rate recreation facilities. Highlighted by ASA-certified spring and summer softball at beautiful Mae Stecker Park our leagues offer a great opportunity for you to relive your glory days.

Youth Sports Leagues
Sports are a great way to get kids out and active. They can enjoy the fresh air while learning valuable lessons like teamwork, dedication and how to win and lose. Shelby Township Parks and Recreation youth leagues teach the fundamentals of sports with other kids their age without an intense focus on wins and losses.

Athletic Events and Leagues for Children, Adults, and Seniors Annual Holiday and Cultural Events Instruction in Sports, Fitness, and Dance Nature Center Events and Programming Senior Citizen Activities and Outings Workshops, Seminars, and Various Programs.
More than 1,100 acres of public parks offer a variety of recreational opportunities for all ages. You’ll find athletic fields, biking and hiking trails, a fishing site, and basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as a number of picnic areas throughout our parks. You’ll even find pavilions to rent for large groups such as graduation parties and family reunions, and a beautiful outdoor locale for family or wedding photos.
Shelby Township’s parks and recreation catalog includes a listing of our current offerings. The publication is mailed to Shelby Township and Utica households and can also be downloaded on our publications page.
The Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department's Special Recreation Program allows teens and adults who are developmentally and/or physically impaired to gain confidence and a feeling of independence by meeting new friends and sharing fun social activities.
Membership is free and the group continues to grow with over 120 registered members ranging in age from 12 through their late 40's. Monthly activities include dinner outings, dances, sports nights, pizza and movie nights, craft days, bingo and seasonal bowling, basketball and softball leagues. Nominal fees required and will vary for each activity.
Please call 586-731-0300 to register and be placed on the mailing list to receive the calendar of events which is mailed three times a year.

Instructions for Insurance Certificates - If you are renting a pavilion at one of the Township Parks and are using a caterer, renting a moonwalk, dunk tank, etc. then you need to follow these instructions to submit a liability insurance certificate from the company you are contracting.

Special Use Permit - This publication is for any independent profit or non-profit organization this is requesting to use one of our Township Facilities for a special event.
Pioneer Park, located at 7505 Hahn Street, is home to the city of Utica's new dog park.
As part of Shelby Township's shared service agreement with Utica, township residents can register to use the dog park for an annual fee. Fees include a key fob for entry to the park. Submit liability waivers and documentation, and pick up key fobs at Utica City Hall at 7550 Auburn Road.
CODE OF CONDUCT AND INFORMATION
1. In compliance with the Macomb County Animal Control, an incident/bite report will be filed immediately for any incident involving bodily Injury (broken skin) to persons or dogs. You may also want to complete a police report by calling the City of Utica Police Dept. at 586-731-2345. |
2. Use of the dog park shall be at the owner's own risk. The City of Utica Is not responsible for any injury or damage caused by any dog in the park. |
3. Any dog showing aggression or rough play toward people and/or other dogs must be immediately leashed and removed from the dog park by its owner/handler. |
4. Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times. Dogs cannot be out of control, out of your sight, or damaging the park in any way. Your dog must be non-aggressive and under voice command. |
5. All dogs must be on leash until inside the dog park common area. Please keep your leash with you at all times. |
6. For the safety of all registered dogs, please do not allow anyone without a valid key fob pass, into the dog park. |
7. Your key fob is a purchase - not a deposit. If you wish to transfer it to another owner, please let the office know immediately. |

9. Dogs must have current license and immunization records on file with the Recreation office to visit the dog park. A current copy of the owner's driver's license must be on file. |
10. Once immunizations have expired, you have one week to update vaccinations and provide paperwork to the office. Otherwise, your key fob will be suspended until proof of updated vaccinations has been submitted to the Recreation office. |
11. Owners must dean up pet waste, inside and outside of the dog park. Bags are provided inside the park. Please do not take extra bags for personal use. |
12. Not permitted into the park: children under 5 years of age, dogs in heat, and puppies under 4 months old. |
13. Limit 2 dogs per adult when visiting the park. Up to 4 dogs in a household can be registered on the same key fob pass. |
14. Dogs must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older) at all times within the enclosure. |
15. Children ages 5 - 17 may only visit the dog park with an adult (18 years or older). |
16. Dogs weighing 25 lbs. or less are permitted inside the small dog area as well as, the large dog area (at owner's discretion). Large dogs are not allowed to use the small dog area while small dogs are present. |
17. Please place trash and cigarette butts in the proper receptacles. |
18. The water fountain is on during the warmer seasons. |
Incidents must be reported by phone, email or in-person within two business days. Please call the Utica Police Department 586-731-2345 Non-Emergency or 911 for Emergencies.

Memberships are active for 1 year from the date of purchase or renewal.
